How to make Overnight Oats
What are Overnight Oats?
Overnight oats are a no-cook way to prepare your oatmeal. They are oats that have been soaked in liquid whether its water or milk (plant based like almond milk, coconut milk or regular milk). You can use any oat variety: old fashioned oats (rolled oats), steel cut oats or quick/instant oats. But typically rolled or instant oats are preferred!
The oats absorb the liquid while in the refrigerator overnight or over the course of a few hours. As they take in the liquid, this softens the oats just the way cooking them on a stovetop or in the microwave does.
Overnight Oats are typically mixed with other ingredients such as fruit, nuts and/or a sweetener (maple syrup, honey, sugar).
